OK, knowing Philosophy is more your balliwack, I will take a stab anyway.
If I read this right the Prisoners are humanity, and the interpretation of this cave is that the prisoners do not know any reality other then the cave and the shadows being cast on the wall.
Your analogy is that Donald, Rosie and Barbara need to be dragged into the sun by some philosopher in order for them to move on? Or are we just watching the shadows and getting mad at the idiot chained next to us who can't differentiate between the fat shadow, the skinny shadow and the shadow with bad hair? I for one say pass the popcorn and that shadow of there with the big nose is Behar.
I think it would take more than a philosopher to grag Donald, Rosie and Barbara into the light.
Side note... didn't Barbara Walters used to be a respected journalist?
