Mr. President?

In a trailer, I saw Wayne Palmer sitting in the oval office being addressed as Mr. President. Not sure I like that. Too hokey.

Moreover, I am not sure enough time has passed in between last season and this season to allow for him to 1) raise the funds to run, 2) conduct a campaign, 3) actually run for offfice and 4) be a sitting President. Unless, of course, they are going to to a "three years later" thing right from the beginning. If they do that, well, they are at the rope's end. By way of example, when the Tom Clancy books made Jack Ryan President, the stories took on a more fictional feel to them and lost the "this really happened" feeling Hunt for Red October had. Now, I know that we never had a President David Palmer so 24 was always fictional. However, I think that when you take a show which has, as its theme, a "live ation" component as its hook, you can't come back with a "three years later" prologue when three years have not passed for us.

I will wait to comment after we see the first four hours. It might be explained.

I hope so. Moreover, I hope it is a real explanation, not a "forced" one.

So, I am going to post here about the first two hours.

General Overview

I thouroughly enjoyed the first two hours. I was not obviously annoyed at plot holes or timing. I know the reason I enjoyed it is I want to enjoy 24, and I enjoy the moments of 24 I have missed, I laughed out loud when Jack told CTU there isn't any time. I chuckled when he killed the guy by faking his death and biting through his jugular. I laughed that the terrorist gave up on looking for Jack ten feet from the opening of the storm sewer, go ahead, time it, he is hidden in the hole int he wall and then he is in bright sunshine. Hell, I will even buy the fact that a guy drving a 1989 Chevy has a state of the art gps cell phone in is car. I wanted to believe and I did. So that is out of the way.

Mysteries that will be revealed?

1) What did Chineese get for releasing Jack? I say Missle Technology.

2) Who is the CTU nemisis to Jack? Nadia? Milo? English Guy? I say Nadia turns into more of a thorn then anyone.

3) Is the Presidents sister married to a terrorist? I say no, but it is early.

4) What is in the package? My guess is a detonator device.

5) And the big one, can Assad be trusted? I say in the end yes.

Kudos

1) Nice beat down scene of Kumar in the house. The kick into the cofee table, cliche but effective.

2) Good missle attack ont he house in Inglewood. Interesting no mention of collateral casualties. I also think that if a man tells you a house is going to be destroyed by missle securing the files on the CPU is useless.

3) Audrey, my daughter, well done.

4) Everyone once again realizing Jack is always right.

5) The fact that cities without a Jack Bauer are just screwed.

Missed the mark.

1) The subway scene, too predictable, plus I cannot believe LA has guys checking tickets on the subway, but what do I know.

2) Chloe getting Nadia to break protocol and explain everything we needed to know about why Jack was back. Why couldn't they just have us in the meeting? Can't Chloe ever follow protocol?

3) Milo, that actor is like Rudy last year, out of place on 24. He screams slacker.

4) Yes, they have not explained Wayne as president yet, I do like the fact that this country elected a black president in David Palmer, he serves one term, and then four years later elects the second black presdient, his younger brother. The Palmers are not the black Kennedys.

5) Once again, the easiest perimeter to breach is a CTU perimeter.

Surprises

1) That dirty dog Buchanan settling down and marrying Karen Hayes. Since he was with Michelle in Seattle you would have thought he never would marry his own age.

Well, that is my initial rant.

I too thoroughly enjoyed it. Jack is back or is he really. Should be interesting to see what gives Jack his edge back. The Chinese clearly tried to break him but true to form he would not give in. I can only assume he saw all the torture tricks he has ever pulled and maybe some. Did a good job of thinning him down made it more believable he was gone.

As far as President Palmer 2 years later he could have easily been elected considering the past President and party were all corrupt. The nation loved and mourned his brother the party he ran for probably saw a sure win.

As far as the sister I don't think her hubby is a terrorist but she is hiding something he wasn't he was willing to give the Feds what they wanted she didn't.

Now I think the Peter McNichol guy is bad news. Don't trust him. He could be working with the guys from last season. Don't know what it is but my motherly instincts say run don't walk run from him.

As far as Chloe and Nadia doesn't Chloe out rank her? They didn't tell Chloe because of her relationship with Jack which of course proved right thats he would try and save him.

Loved the scene when they of course figured out for the millionth time Jack was right....again. Can't wait for tonight.

Jack is back!!!!!!

Ok so it has been 4 years since David Palmer did not run for President and the President's plane went down and the whiney, spineless vice-president took over as President.
